Banknotes for all conditions
It is critical for issuers to ensure the community is provided with high quality notes in circulation. This is essential for the public and cash handlers in their day to day requirements, for simple cash transactions through to the demands of using notes in a variety of cash sorting/accepting/dispensing machines.
Good quality notes in circulation are essential to:
- Meet the needs and expectations of the public in regards to appearance, cleanliness and ease of handling.
- Facilitate mechanised dispensing, counting, and sorting of notes.
- Deter counterfeiting - counterfeit notes are usually circulated as poor quality notes.
- Encourage the use of the notes in “everyday” transactions.
- Enhance the image and reputation of the currency.
The functionality of Guardian®; -based banknotes results from a combination of important factors:
- The substrate is non-fibrous, it does not break down physically with repeated folding like paper notes
- The substrate does not go limp like paper notes.
- The substrate has a high resistance to tearing, especially compared to paper.
- After the banknotes have been printed, they are given a protective overcoat. These coatings add additional protection to the finished banknote to reduce ink wear and extend the life of banknotes.
