FIRST STONE CEREMONY AT NEW SECURENCY INTERNATIONAL
MEXICO SITE

Mexico issued its first polymer banknotes, the 20 Pesos, in 2002.  The benefits in terms of durability, cleanliness, cost savings and reduction in counterfeits led Banco de Mexico to issue the 50 Pesos in 2006.  The early experience of the 50 Pesos is also very positive.

After a detailed feasibility study to consider the proposal for the establishment of a security polymer substrate plant in Mexico, Securency International has entered a joint venture with the Banco de Mexico for the establishment of a plant in Queretaro, Mexico to produce secure substrate.  It is anticipated that the Mexican plant would be operational in early 2009.

This led to the establishment of Securency International Mexico, a new company, being a subsidiary of Securency International.  Following the Mexico Symposium, the first Securency International Mexico Board Meeting was held in Queretaro, which is located around two hours north of Mexico City.

A special first stone ceremony was held on the 3rd July to commemorate the purchase of the Securency International Mexican plant site, and the ceremony was attended by the Australian Ambassador to Mexico, Mr Neil Mules, Board members, and officials from Securency International and Banco de Mexico.
