PUBLIC ACCEPTANCE OF THE NEW POLYMER 20 NAIRA BANKNOTE

The new N20 currency note released into the economy last week along with other denominations by the CBN, has continued to fascinate Nigerians.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that residents of Kano, particularly women and children, have described the N20 note as the most aesthetically attractive among the new notes, because of its polymer content.

As a result, most residents are irresistibly finding it difficult to dispose of it once it comes into their hands.

Some women and children said they would like to keep some of the currency notes as memento.

A housewife, Malama Habiba Nasiru, of Kwalli quarters in Kano, told NAN she had so far kept 30 pieces of the new note and was not in a hurry to spend the money.

"I cannot spend the money now because I love the currency notes," she said, adding that she would spend the money only if there were assurances that there would be replacement.

Meanwhile, some people have started rejecting the old notes, preferring the new ones, in spite of CBN's directive that the notes should be used side-by-side. (NAN)
