Central Bank of Chile informs about the process of updating the banknote designs.

The Central Bank of Chile informs that as of the second semester of next year, it will commence the gradual process of updating the circulating banknotes designs, announced the last 24 of March, and that is framed in the commemoration of the Bicentennial of National Independence.

The new banknotes, that will be put in circulation in sequential manner, during a period of approximately two years, will maintain the present denominations and personages, but will have different size to facilitate their recognition by the public in general and, specially, by the visually impaired persons.

Three denominations of these new banknotes will be elaborated on polymer substrate and two on paper, incorporating in their manufacture most modern existing technological processes in the world in this.

The Bank also communicates that, as part of this process, the international tender process has concluded to select the companies that will produce these banknotes.

Due to the high importance of this subject for the population and for reasons of security, more detailed information of the characteristics of the new banknotes will be released to the public in a date next to its effective issuing, through written official notices that will be uploaded the institutional Website.

Papua New Guinea launches redesigned new series 50 Kina and
commemorative 2 Kina

Governor of the Bank of Papua New Guinea, Mr. L Wilson Kamit CBE recently launched the redesigned new series 50 Kina and commemorative 2 Kina polymer banknotes.  The launch of these banknotes was held on the 35th anniversary of the Bank of Papua New Guinea, which was established on 1st November 1973.

The notes, which became legal tender on 31st October, have retained the traditional and cultural designs already incorporated on the previous 2, 5, 10, 20 and 50 Kina notes to continue to remind the public of their rich cultures and traditions. 

The Governor commented that “It is the banks role to ensure public acceptability and confidence in our currency is maintained by ensuring the design and appearance are acceptable and longevity and sufficient stocks of banknotes and coins are maintained for our public needs.”

The Bank of Papua New Guinea launched the new 5 Kina polymer banknote and the new redesigned 10 Kina polymer banknote on the 17th April.  The release of the banknotes was timed to coincide with the Kina and Toea Day, which was on the 19th of April, but as this fell on a Saturday this year the launch was brought forward to the 17th April.  The banknotes went into circulation the next day on 18th April, 2008.
 
The predominant colour of the 5 Kina banknote is purple and the predominant colour of the 10 Kina banknote is blue.  The main design elements on the front of both banknotes are the Parliament House and the National Crest of Papua New Guinea, which is a stylized Bird of paradise sitting on a Kundu (drum) and a Spear.
