The Central Bank of Honduras launched the 20 Lempiras on Guardian® polymer, on the 12th January, Sandra de Midence, President of Banco Central de Honduras presented the banknote which will go into circulation nationwide over the next few days. The paper based 20 Lempiras will continue to circulate alongside the polymer banknotes until it is phased out.

The design on the front of the new 20 Lempiras banknote shows the Portrait of Dionisio de Herrera, First Head of the State of Honduras. The design on the reverse shows the Presidential House (1922-1992).
